Loved Ones (“Loved Ones,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Loved Ones mobile application and the website at lovedonesapp.com(together, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Who we are
Loved Ones is a concierge gift-giving service. You tell us about the people you care about and the occasions that matter to them; we help you choose a thoughtful gift and arrange for it to be delivered. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us any time at support@lovedonesapp.com.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information — your name, email address, and (if you choose to sign in that way) the basic profile information shared by Apple or Google when you use their sign-in services. If you verify a phone number, we collect that number.
- Loved one & occasion details — information you add about the people you want to remember and gift, such as their name, your relationship to them, important dates (birthdays, anniversaries, and other occasions), interests, notes, and — if you provide it — their email address, phone number, or mailing address so a gift can be delivered.
- Order information — the gifts you select, gift messages, delivery addresses, and order history.
- Communications — messages you send us (for support, feedback, or otherwise) and your preferences for receiving messages from us.
Information we collect automatically
- Device & usage data — app version, device type and operating system, language settings, and basic usage events (for example, screens viewed and actions taken) that help us keep the Service working and improve it.
- Log & diagnostic data — IP address, timestamps, and crash or error reports.
We do not use third-party advertising trackers, and we do not sell your personal information.
Information from third parties
- Sign-in providers — when you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email (or, with Apple, a private relay email if you choose to hide it).
- Payment processor — our payment provider confirms whether a payment succeeded and shares limited details such as the last four digits of your card and the card brand. We never receive or store your full card number.
- Fulfillment partners— when a gift is fulfilled by a partner vendor, we receive order status updates (for example, “shipped” or “delivered”).
3. How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- create and manage your account;
- provide the Service — including remembering your loved ones' occasions, reminding you, helping you choose gifts, and arranging delivery;
- process and fulfill orders, including passing the necessary details to payment and fulfillment partners;
- send you transactional messages (order confirmations, delivery updates, reminders, security and account notices);
- send you product news and offers, where permitted — you can opt out at any time;
- respond to your questions and provide customer support;
- monitor, secure, debug, and improve the Service;
- detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
Where required by law, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of our contract with you (to provide the Service and fulfill orders); your consent (for example, marketing messages, which you can withdraw at any time); our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the Service and prevent fraud); and compliance with legal obligations.
4. How we share your information
We share personal information only as described below:
- Service providers — companies that host our infrastructure and database, send our email, process payments, and provide similar operational services, acting on our instructions and under confidentiality obligations.
- Fulfillment partners & merchants— when you order a gift, we share the details needed to prepare and deliver it (such as the recipient's name, delivery address, gift selection, and gift message). Some gifts are completed on a partner merchant's own website or platform; when that happens, that merchant's privacy policy also applies to the information you provide to them.
- Legal & safety — when we believe disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to enforce our Terms; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Loved Ones, our users, or others.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
- With your direction — any other sharing you ask us to do.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. Information about gift recipients
When you add a loved one or send a gift, you may give us another person's information (such as their name, address, or contact details). You are responsible for that information: you represent that you have the right to share it with us for the purpose of arranging gifts, and that doing so does not violate that person's rights or any law. We use recipient information only to provide the Service to you — for example, to deliver a gift you ordered — and we do not market to recipients. If you are a recipient and want to know what information we hold about you or ask us to remove it, contact us at support@lovedonesapp.com and we will work with you and the relevant account holder to address your request.
6. Payments
Payments are processed by a third-party payment processor (currently Stripe). Your card details are collected and handled directly by that processor under its own privacy policy and PCI-DSS obligations; Loved Ones does not receive or store your full payment card number. We do receive confirmation of payment and limited information such as the card brand and last four digits, which we use to manage your orders and provide receipts.
7. Data retention
We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and for as long as we need it to provide the Service. After you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we need to retain certain records to complete transactions you requested, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and abuse, or enforce our agreements. Backup copies are purged on a rolling schedule.
8. Your choices & rights
You can, at any time:
- Access and update most of your information directly in the app;
- Opt out of marketing messages using the unsubscribe link in the email or by contacting us — we will still send necessary transactional messages;
- Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- Ask us to correct or delete your personal information;
- Object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent where we rely on it; and
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To make a request, email us at support@lovedonesapp.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law and may need to verify your identity first. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
9. Deleting your account
You can delete your account and associated personal information at any time from within the app, under Profile → Settings → Delete Account. You can also email us at support@lovedonesapp.com from the address on your account and we will delete it for you. When you delete your account, we remove your loved ones, occasions, and related personal data, subject to the limited retention exceptions described in Section 7.
10. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your personal information — including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security on our database. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your information, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.
11. Children's privacy
The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. International data transfers
Loved Ones is operated from the United States, and our service providers may process your information in the United States and other countries. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for international transfers. By using the Service, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.
13. U.S. state privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example, California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, or Utah), you may have additional rights, including the right to know or access the personal information we have collected, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information or targeted advertising. Loved Ones does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@lovedonesapp.com. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf, and you may appeal a decision by replying to our response.
California “Shine the Light.” We do not share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, if the changes are material, provide a more prominent notice (for example, in the app or by email). Your continued use of the Service after an update takes effect means you accept the revised policy.
